Chaser of the Light by Tyler Knott Gregson - ★★★ Stars

I'm back with another weekly book review! I know some of you guys just skip over my book reviews, but some of you guys seem to genuinely enjoy seeing what I'm reading and how I feel about each book, so as long as someone enjoys reading these, I will continue to do so! If you have any book recommendations, I'm always looking for another book to read. Onto the legitimate review!

This week I went back to reading a poetry book. My sister lent it to me, because she really liked it. I can completely see why, Tyler is an incredibly talented writer.

This book is considered to be the typewriter series because most of the poems were written on this typewriter he found at a thrift store. He would write poems on these scraps of paper. He explains it all in his introduction. Here's the summary though:

"One day, while browsing an antique store in Helena, Montana, photographer Tyler Knott Gregson stumbled upon a vintage Remington typewriter for sale. Standing up and using a page from a broken book he was buying for $2, he typed a poem without thinking, without planning, and without the ability to revise anything.

He fell in love.

Three years and almost one thousand poems later, Tyler is now known as the creator of the Typewriter Series, a striking collection of poems typed onto found scraps of paper or created via blackout method. Chasers of the Light features some of his most insightful and beautifully worded pieces of work- poems that celebrate the beauty of a life spent chasing the light."

As you can see above, this is what the book consists of. Type written poems on scraps and other poems based on his photography. Now, how do I feel about this overall book? I liked it, I feel like he is very talented, but his poetry in this book only has one theme. The love of his life and the loss of that love.

I completely understand why my sister loved it, she is a hopeless romantic at heart, while I get a lil tired of the sappiness after a while. Like I said, this is my personal opinion. While I did really like the poetry in the book, this wouldn't be something I would have paid money for myself. It was a really quick read, and if you are a lover of romance and poetry then this is the perfect investment for you!
