Pretenders by Lisi Harrison - ★★★ Stars
This is the other book I read on the cruise. I was quite surprised, because I bought this book in the $1 store! A few months ago, my friend Jill, told me that she found some really good books in the dollar store, so the last time I was there I picked up two books, this one and another one that I haven't started yet! Guys check your local dollar store, cause you never know what you're going to find!
Onto the actual review! The back of the book said this:
"We are the Phoenix Five. Our picture is on page eighteen of Noble High's Phoenix yearbook. You nominated us. You thought we were the most outstanding students in our freshman class. You were wrong. we are pretenders.

From the back of the book I was seriously interested. I didn't know what exactly to expect. The novel is written from the point of views of five different journals. Three girls and two boys. They all talk about their difficulties throughout their freshman year of high school. This book wasn't anything special, even though it did leave off on a cliffhanger.
I'm a little biased when it comes to these types of books, because I like the journal entry format. I feel like they are quick reads. I do feel this book was meant for a younger age group by the way it was written, and it would not be something that I would have bought on Amazon or for full price at Barnes & Noble, but since I got it for $1, I can't complain at all.
Some of the characters were more likable than others, and some of them I wanted to know more about. To be honest, I liked the book enough that I want to know what happens next, so I will be looking for a copy of the second book in the series. I wonder if it continues throughout their sophomore year, or if it literally continues where the first book left off.
Above I put the summary that was found on the inside of the book. It usually gives you a bit of more information. If you're still indecisive on whether or not to purchase the book, maybe that summary will help you out! I also put the introduction pages of the book for you to get a feel for the writing style, even though each point of view changes the way they write.
I'm curious to see who was the one that publicly released all the journals(You can find out what I'm talking about by reading the introduction in the photo I posted above)! This book was a quick read, and while I wouldn't pay full price for this book, I can say that for a discounted price, it was a good read.
I hoped you liked reading my book review! If you have any more book recommendations let me know in the comments below. Have a wonderful day/night. Sending loads of positive vibes.
