Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvin
I didn't originally read this book for my own enjoyment, because it was a reading assignment for my Young Adult Literature class. I didn't even really expect to like it, but I did. The narrator is funny and witty.
Growing up, I didn't really have books like this, so I am so happy for the new generation of teenagers to have this type of reading available to them. This book is about a gender fluid person. It was written in a way that to me was very educational and eye-opening. I honestly have never done much research on this type of personal identity, but was extremely pleased. Of course there are going to be people that find this extremely controversial. There are going to be people who it goes against everything they believe in, but I am so happy that books like this are being made. Everyone deserves to feel like they belong. Everyone deserves to feel like they are being represented.
Just the thought of someone going through something like this and feeling badly about themselves, and then reading about it, and feeling like they belong is amazing. It honestly warms my heart that there are so many more books about the LGBTQIA community.
